As would be expected in the Sport Fishing Capital of the World the fishing in the local area is great. There is access to the ocean both east and west, although going east to Whale Harbor bridge and channel is quicker and easier for the newcomer. Once out the channel the patch reef fishing, deep jigging, and blue water fishing for sailfish, wahoo and dolphin are just ahead. The best bonefishing in the world literally surrounds you in all directions both bayside and oceanside. The flats around Shell Key, just 4 minutes from the boat basin, are amongst the best and have produced bonefish up to 12 pounds. After dark, snapper and grouper can be taken by fishing right off the seawall of the boat basin. The boat basin has a fish cleaning table for your convenience, and a shower to wash off the salt, etc after a successful fishing or diving trip.
And speaking of diving, our area of Islamorada has some of the finest Scuba Diving and Snorkeling to be found anywhere in the United States FL Keys Diving. There a large selection of charter dive boats to take you out to John Pennekamp State Park, various other reefs and a wide variety of wreck dives. And the patch reefs and marked dive sites just on the Ocean side of Islamorada are easy to get to and have an abundance of fish and coral in shallow sites perfect for an easy snorkeling tour.
